Eye care tips

I have a few small questions about Lasik laser eye surgery?

These are my questions:
~How long does the surgery range to and from?
~What is the average cost?
~What are some other options?
~Does the patient remain awake or asleep during the operation?
~Is it worth it?

i work at a Lasik eye surgery place with one of the most respected OD doctors in my area, good thing i came across your question.

1.) the surgery takes about an hour, it doesnt take that long.
2.) where i work its about $2,000 per eye.
    3.) glasses and/or contacts
4.) awake, they need your eyes to be open, duh. but you can ask to be put to sleep, haha.
5.) i think it is. ironically, i wear glasses, and in the future i wll for sure get Lasik eye surgery. all of the patients are happy that they got it.

    good luck.

I think a lot of this depends on your the surgeon/doctor you choose. Most offices do a free consultation that takes about an hour and a half to determine if you are a good candidate. The day of the procedure you are probably there between 1-2 hours (I had it done and I was there an hour and 45.) You get there early so they can do a final check on your eyes, give you eye drops, allow your eyes to dilate, gives you time for Valium to kick in all before the surgery. The actual surgery part is less than 15min. from the time you walk in the room until you walk out. I think I was in the room 10min. TOPS. It’s usually about $1500-$2000 an eye. My Dr. charged $4400 but gave discounts to teachers, police officers, fire fighters, etc. and I’m a teacher so it was only $3495. You are awake during the procedure (hence the Valium and you know what’s going on the whole time.) You can wear contacts or if you are not a candidate for LASIK they can do PRK which is pretty similar they just don’t cut the cornea and it takes longer to heal. It was DEFINITELY worth it and the best money I have ever spent.

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

    Hope this helps.

Most places do free screening to see if you are even a good candidate.

took 15 minutes per eye for me
price depends on the type of surgery, etc… my eyesight sucked & it cost me 2.5k in dc area
alternatives – PRK, LASEK, Epi-LASIK, Phakic IOL, ICL, RLE, NearVision CK
You are awake. Surgeon numbs your eyes, secures them open and you just focus on a little dot.
    GET IT DONE!!!!
